How Do HubSpot Credits Work? (2026 Guide)

Last Updated: July 11, 2026

HubSpot Credits are a usage-based system that powers HubSpot's AI tools — things like Breeze Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent, and data enrichment. Every paid HubSpot account gets a monthly credit allowance based on its plan (Starter, Professional, or Enterprise), and credits are only spent when those AI features actually run. If you go over your allowance, you can either auto-upgrade to a higher tier or pay for extra credits as you go.

I've been in HubSpot portals since 2018 — from free accounts to Enterprise — and I originally wrote about this system back when it first opened up to Starter users. A lot has changed since then, including how some of the biggest credit-consuming features are priced. So here's the current, accurate breakdown.

What Are HubSpot Credits?

Think of credits as a shared currency inside HubSpot. Instead of paying a flat fee for every AI feature, you draw down credits only when you actually use one. HubSpot gives you a set amount each month based on your plan, and unused credits don't roll over — they reset at the start of each new billing period.

This matters because it means your bill is tied to how much value you're actually pulling from these tools, not a blanket subscription fee whether you use them or not.

How Do HubSpot Credits Work?

Here's the mechanic in plain terms:

  • HubSpot allocates you a monthly credit pool based on your subscription tier.
  • Credits are consumed when you use an AI-powered feature — for example, when Breeze Customer Agent resolves a customer conversation, or when a Data Studio sync runs.
  • You can monitor usage in real time under Account & Billing → Usage & Limits.
  • If you're close to your limit, you decide what happens next: auto-upgrade to a higher credit tier, or turn on pay-as-you-go and only pay for what you go over.

That last part is worth sitting with. The default setting on most accounts is auto-upgrade, which quietly moves you to a higher (and pricier) credit tier the moment you exceed your limit — and you stay there for the rest of your contract term unless you change it. If predictable billing matters to you, switching to pay-as-you-go overage is usually the better setting. It costs more per credit if you go over, but it won't lock you into a higher base tier by accident.

How Many HubSpot Credits Do You Get?

Your monthly allowance depends on your highest subscription tier:

Plan Credits/Month
Starter 500
Professional 3,000
Enterprise 5,000

Data Hub has its own, larger allocation (500 / 5,000 / 10,000 for Starter/Professional/Enterprise), since data enrichment tends to be credit-hungry.

HubSpot Credits Pricing (2026)

If you go beyond your included credits, additional credits currently cost around $10 per 1,000 credits ($0.01 per credit) on a pay-as-you-go basis, billed in small increments. That's separate from your base subscription and seat costs — it's strictly for AI feature usage.

A few things worth knowing before you turn AI features on:

  • Customer Agent costs 50 credits (about $0.50) per resolved conversation. This changed in April 2026 — it used to charge per conversation regardless of outcome. Now you only pay when the AI actually solves the customer's issue.
  • Prospecting Agent runs about $1 per recommended lead.
  • You can set feature-level spend limits so a single tool can't quietly burn through your whole monthly pool. This is a good move if you're testing a new AI feature and want a guardrail.

If your business runs any real volume through Breeze — support conversations, prospecting, data enrichment — it's worth checking your usage monthly rather than assuming the included allowance will always cover you.

What Are HubSpot Breeze Credits Used For?

Depending on your plan, credits can power:

  • Smart Properties
  • Data Enrichment
  • Buyer Intent
  • Breeze Customer Agent (Professional and Enterprise only)
  • Breeze Prospecting Agent (Professional and Enterprise only)
  • Breeze Data Agent
  • Data Studio syncs

If you're on Starter, you still won't have access to Customer Agent or Prospecting Agent — those remain Pro/Enterprise features. But Starter accounts do get a real credit allowance for the tools they do have access to, like data enrichment and buyer intent, which is more than Starter customers had a couple of years ago.

These same AI credits are what power a lot of what HubSpot now calls Loop Marketing, using AI to turn customer data into automatically smarter marketing over time.

Why This Still Matters for Small Businesses

I know how it feels to want tools that scale with you instead of forcing you into an expensive tier before you're ready. That's exactly what the credit system is designed to do — you're not locked out of AI features just because you're on a smaller plan, and you're not paying for capacity you don't use.

But "usage-based" cuts both ways. It's flexible, and it can also surprise you if nobody's watching the meter. That's the part I see trip up small teams most often — not understanding the system, then getting an unexpected bill.

If you're not sure whether your current setup is set to auto-upgrade or pay-as-you-go, or whether the AI features you've turned on actually make sense for your plan, that's a quick thing to check — and a place I can help.
